The Park Family

North Korea

My father’s family fled from North to South, in 1945, when poverty was rampant, and just as the country was dividing.  As the eldest, he dropped out of college and emigrated to the United States–in order to work and send money home. He met an elder German immigrant–a  jovial Jersey Shore gift shop owner and former army cook, who gave him a room and a janitorial job. This began a life-long friendship, and our story of a beautiful blended family.  And how a Korean American girl came to have a German grandfather!  The most loving human being to come into our lives.
